A minor triumph

August 05, 2005 - 3:29 p.m.

Well, I might be one of the few people in history who ever badgered Match.com out of a full refund. $50.97 mysteriously reappeared in my checking account yesterday morning after two things happened:

  1. I filed a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission
  2. I told Match I filed a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission

Maybe it actually works to bitch about things once in a while, but don't encourage me too much. I'll get too fond of it.

In other news, I had a truly hilarious exchange with Overstock.com (and yes, I think that woman in the "white room" Overstock.com commercials is hot). A few weeks ago, I'd ordered the stuff I mentioned from them... the EarSubs, as well as a docking station for the PlayStation Portable and a universal iPod dock.

Well, the box showed up without the iPod dock. I got on the chat with them, told them the iPod dock was missing, and they offered to track one down. This morning, I get a message from them saying they were shipping... another PSP dock!

Got them on chat again, and spent 20 minutes going back and forth with this woman who seemed sure I wanted to RETURN the PSP dock or something... I finally had to explain in small words and it appears that yes, they sent the iPod dock out, but they ALSO sent another PSP dock, but didn't charge me for it, but that I should return it when I get it.

So, I guess I'll see what shows up. I hope Overstock.com doesn't make a habit of sending free gadgets out to people like me, or they're not going to be in business all that long.

It's all about the O, remember.
