Paying it fast-forward

January 29, 2008 - 3:26 p.m.

It's not often that you get to see useful pass-thru of your good deeds in real time, but I did last night.

I went and washed the TDI after work, because it was covered with fine dust from the farm lane along which the VW shop I go to exists. After that, I was on the way home and saw a guy next to a pickup truck on 340 with his thumb out. Hood up, flashers on. I pulled over, and it turned out he'd run out of gas about five miles short of the nearest station. I wasn't in an enormous hurry, so I took him up to Sheetz in Brunswick, waited while he got an overpriced gallon jug, put fuel in it, then drove him back to his truck. He poured it in, the truck fired up, and I was following him down 340 when we saw a woman with an SUV on the side, flashers going.

He immediately pulled over to help HER out (even though he probably should have gone ahead and topped up his gas so he wouldn't run out again).

I was impressed and pleased.

And, I almost rear-ended him because he slowed down so fast. Oh, well.
