Not Maryland, not even close

August 28, 2005 - 3:59 p.m.

Wasted the better part of the middle of the afternoon driving into, around, and back from DC. I shouldn't have gone in the first place... the goal had been to help out a woman who contacted me on another online site... she wanted to meet and needed help hooking up her DSL. Alas, she sucked at giving directions and despite her protestations, didn't live anywhere near Maryland. She was clearly in DC, with all its usual moron tourist drivers and streets that are badly-marked and all go the wrong way. While I was sitting on M Street, I realized that the odds of me wanting to ever do this again would be zero, so the odds I'd ever want to see her a second time would be zero as well.

I finally said, scruit, and went home. She can get somebody else to hook up her DSL. I knew it wouldn't have gone anywhere anyway... she was another one of those mid-40s-and-never-been-married women. Again, the more of those I meet, the more certain I am that they've stayed unmarried for a damn good reason, or reasons. I want less and less to do with them. Divorced women have at least learned that the world isn't perfect.
