Not Richie and Potsie

November 22, 2004 - 4:32 p.m.

Well, I met Charlotte. Friday was actually a rather busy evening, in that I was supposed to meet K early on for a drink, then meet Charlotte later, after she and her friends went to dinner.

K reminds me a lot of Mary... the same energetic and sexy vibes. She also, as a surprise, left the jeans and boots home and was somewhat dolled up. Very nice, actually. She and I talked about a bunch of stuff, and I felt quite comfortable with, and attracted to, her. More about this later.

I went out and met Charlotte later on, at a place near Frederick. Because I hadn't seen a lot of pictures of her, and because she isn't, herself, online, I think both of us were a little uncertain what to expect. Charlotte has nice eyes, a nice way about her, and I like her voice, but I kept feeling like we were both quite wary of each other. And, worst of all, at the end of the evening I got a nice handshake, which is normally a kiss (or rather, a non-kiss) of death. I was, all in all, extremely uncertain that I had made any kind of an impression, and came away with the feeling she had agreed to meet me only because she had agreed to meet me.

I was somewhat wrong. Got an email from her friend D, who had put us in touch, saying Charlotte liked my looks and was interested in meeting again. Why this didn't immediately reignite my interest, I am not sure.

I also got an email from K, saying she'd enjoyed meeting me, but was "only interested in casual dating right now." Well, fuckit, I'm NOT. I don't do anything in my whole life "casually." This ain't Richie and Potsie and Mary Lou at Arnold's drive-in on Friday night, folks, I'm 42 years old and want somebody to TOUCH.

The fallout from all this is that I feel pretty damn apathetic lately. About people, mostly.
