People wonder

June 02, 2004 - 6:58 p.m.

Always nice to know that police officers are there to help you. The new Saab gets absolutely, mind-bendingly bad gas mileage (about 17, instead of the 27 the other two get) and I managed to run it out of gas this morning. By the time I got back to it, our wonderful and "helpful" Frederick County Sheriffs were on the scene... towing it. Never mind that I was waving a gallon of gas and getting irritated as shit, their approach was, "well, we've already called for a tow, so this vehicle is going to be towed." And basically that if I got in it, they would arrest me.

What do you bet that the towing contractor is paying off the Sheriff's Department? They towed the fucking thing exactly half a mile, for $125. Plus, of course, $50 for "storage." All this while I stood there, with gas, intending to start the thing up and continue on to work. Nope. The redneck bitch deputy was so intent on "doing her job" that she basically couldn't give a fuck about doing her job.

As a result the day was a waste. Had to go and get a form to get the car back, then take a cab to get the car, then, of course, actually put the aforementioned gas in it and start it up.

People wonder why some people kill cops.
